Washington State Head Football Coach Mike Leach’s Thoughts on 2018 Apple Cup Eve: Talks the Game vs. Washington, Thanksgiving Pie, Bohemian Rhapsody, Dolph Lundgren, More
With only an hour and a half left for Thanksgiving Day 2018, our friend and frequent CYInterview guest, Mike Leach, head football coach of the Washington State Cougars, was kind enough to speak with us on the eve of what is arguably the biggest game of his coaching career with the team.
In roughly 18 hours, the annual Apple Cup, a college football game featuring a matchup between Washington State – at number 8 this year – and in state rival Washington – this year at number 16 – will keep the Cougars in contention for the national title.
Coach Mike Leach gave us his thoughts on the game, notably invoking former NFL coaching great, of Oakland Raiders fame, John Madden in saying that every game is a big game. The Raiders are slated to come to Las Vegas, home of CYInterview, in 2020.
Tomorrow night’s game will be one of the most focused on contests of the last weekend of the college football regular season. A win by Washington State puts them in the Pac 12 Championship Game against Utah next week.
As always, a conversation with Coach Leach would not be complete without a discussion of things well beyond football. This evening, he discussed the Blackberry Pie his daughter made for Thanksgiving, his thoughts on the movie, Bohemian Rhapsody, the upcoming movie of Rocky franchise fame, Creed II, and action star Dolph Lundgren’s connection to Washington State, among other things.
