UNLV Rebels All American Kicker Jose Pizano Talks NFL Draft

The NFL Draft is a few days away. One of the draft’s prospects is University of Nevada, Las Vegas Rebels All American kicker Jose Pizano.

During his college football career, Jose made 69 consecutive extra points. While at UNLV, Jose made 26 of 29 field goal attempts. His longest field goal was 52 yards.

Mr. Pizano joined us on CYInterview to give us some insight into what it is like to be a kicker with dreams of playing in the NFL.

Prior to joining the UNLV Rebels roster, Jose Pizano played at Missouri State. It was there he learned how to deal with the mental side of being a kicker. He credits that for why he became such a consistent kicker during his time in college:

“During my time at Missouri State, I was working with kind of a psychologist, his name is Joe Metzka. He was a really close friend of Bobby Petrino and he really pushed me with the mental side of the game, and just being able to treat every kick, you know, the same whether it’s a 59 yarder field goal, 40 yard field goal or just an extra point. And I feel like, that’s where my game really took off is when I was able to control the mental side of the game.”

On what it was like to kick at Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders during his time at UNLV:

“Being able to play in the Raiders stadium, it just kind of gives you a different perspective of how much like the jump is from the college to the NFL level.”

On why he would be a great addition to an NFL team, Jose said this:

“I definitely think I’ve been in a lot of high-pressure situations you know. I started at the junior college level, played all the way up to, you know, the group of five and even played against SEC teams. So, I think I’ve definitely showcased that I can play at any division and can handle the pressure, you know, whether it’s playing in front of 400 people compared to, you know, 100,000. To me, I treat every game the same, you know nothing changes for me, the uprights are the same whether, like I mentioned, it’s at the junior college level or SEC level and you know, I’m gonna take that mentality, same, you know, if I get an opportunity just to showcase that I can do it.”
