UFC Creator/Cofounder Art Davie, Author of Is This Legal?: The Inside Story of The First UFC from the Man Who Created It to be Inducted into UFC Hall of Fame at Palms Resort and Casino Las Vegas, July 5th; Says Movie Script Based on His Life Now with Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Downey Jr., More

Who is Art Davie and why is he being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame? That question is going to be answered on July 5th at the Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Davie, the creator and cofounder of the MMA organization, told us earlier this week about his upcoming speech for the UFC Hall of Fame induction ceremony. It was Art’s passion and desire over the course of four years, a time of persistence and determination that helped to answer an age old question. What happens when you bring fighters from different styles together and have them face off to see who is most proficient of all?

UFC 1 took place back on November 12 1993. It’s been almost a quarter of a century since that first UFC event. Now, creator and cofounder Art Davie will take his rightful place in the contributor’s section of the UFC Hall of Fame. In our latest chat with Art and CYInterview featured columnist Jay Bildstein, he told us what his induction into the UFC Hall of Fame’s 2018 class means to him:

“So for the UFC to make an announcement and issue a press release that says Art Davie is the creator and co-founder of the UFC and we’re inducting him this year into the contributor’s wing of the Hall of Fame is a huge honor. This is the good seal of approval in the sport of MMA. So quite frankly in all fairness, the UFC is doing me a tremendous service at this point because there are gonna to be a lot of people who don’t know who I am and what I did and will find out about it because of this induction.”

The author of Is This Legal?: The Inside Story of The First UFC from the Man Who Created It has been working with a variety of movie industry professionals to put together the perfect script for a film based on his life story. He gives us an update:

“The book was optioned in January by a Hollywood producer whose last two films have gotten Academy Award nominations for best actor and he’s assigned two great writers to the project who are represented by UTA. My producer’s represented by William Morris Endeavor, that owns the UFC. The script is done and as of Monday of this week, that script is now in the hands of Bradley Cooper, is now in the hands of Chris Pratt, is now in the hands of Leonardo DiCaprio and the script and the book has been given to Robert Downey Jr. and his wife. So I have a funny feeling that there is a good chance that this year that script will be green lit, it will be in a studio and there’s a good chance it will be filmed before the end of the year or the beginning of next year and the fans will be able to enjoy the story of Is This Legal? on the big screen.”
