Time’s Not Done, 10 to 1; a Poem
10 to 1 and the time’s not done
And we reflect on human foolishness
Is there any other kind?
Can animals be foolish?
I wish. We could use the company.
The thing is animals do what they do, obeying their nature.
But we, who can climb trees, lay blame and claim fame
We bathe in foolishness not borne of our nature
But of our straying from it
We are smart but not wise
And we live our lives in disguise
Ignoring our fate
Hey wait, not me!
But yes, you and me too
We’ll all go in this passion play called life
To a resting place of lesser passion perhaps
Maybe greater reflection, who knows
And it just goes to show, like the good book says
All is vanity
We are a strange bunch
So much promise yet so many work arounds
Instead of obeying our nature and being true to ourselves
But we get lost and then invent something so that we are found –
Not profound
Instead, profane; a waste of talent, a waste of time
A waste of brain power
No, I do not sit here and glower
I just reflect, deflect, reject, redirect and ultimately genuflect
Admitting that I’m but a speck on a speck on a speck.
10 to 1 and the time’s not done
And we reflect on human foolishness
Is there any other kind?
Can animals be foolish?
I wish. We could use the company.
