Throwback Thursday: Remembering Past CYInterview Guest, Great Pro Wrestling Personality, “Classy” Freddie Blassie

Over the last two months, Sunday evenings on the A&E TV channel have been a trip down pro wrestling memory lane. From biography specials on past CYInterview guests “Rowdy” Roddy Piper [see here] and “Macho Man” Randy Savage [see here] to past CYInterview guest Jake “The Snake” Roberts [see here] appearing on WWE’s Most Wanted Treasures, sports entertainment fans have had a lot to be thankful for.

Today on throwback Thursday, we remember another past CYInterview guest and one of the all-time great pro wrestling personalities. On June 2nd, 2003, pro wrestler and manager, “Classy” Freddie Blassie died. He was 85 years old. Today, we celebrate the 18th anniversary of his passing.

A month before he died, he spoke with us about the release of his memoir, titled after his famous catch phrase, Listen, You Pencil Neck Geeks. You can find that CYInterview by clicking here.

From managing Jesse Ventura – a multi-time CYInterview guest [see here and here] – Hulk Hogan and Antonio Inoki – the famous boxer in the mixed boxing/wrestling match against Muhammad Ali – to his feuds with Bruno Sammartino, Pedro Morales, Rikidozan and John Tolos, there are a few in the history of pro wrestling who gave as much to the sport.

We will always remember our time with the Fashion Plate of Professional Wrestling. He was truly one of the greats.

This Sunday, one of pro wrestling’s other great legends, will get a two-hour episode of WWE’s Most Wanted Treasures. The search is on for some of The 8th Wonder of the World, Andre The Giant’s memorabilia to be added to the WWE Archives. That show airs at 8:00 PM Eastern Time on A&E.
