    Las Vegas is fight central for the United States. Both boxing and mixed martial arts hold gigantic events there, throughout the calendar year. Art Davie, one of the men responsible for starting the UFC and bringing mixed martial arts to a wide audience, lives not far from Las Vegas in the city of Pahrump, Nevada. Mr. Davie, the author of Is This Legal? The Inside Story of the First UFC from the Man Who Created It is now working on the next part of his saga. After being inducted into the Legends of MMA Hall of Fame in 2014, Mr. Davie has been working hard on getting Is This Legal? turned into a movie. Last year, the UFC founder touched on the subject with us. [See our past CYInterviews with Art Davie here and here]. Aside from that, there is no denying that his work on behalf of mixed martial arts should earn him an induction into the Contributor’s Section of the UFC Hall of Fame. It is something he thinks will happen in the coming years.

    For his millions of fans, the death of multitalented music star Prince was a moment many did not expect. Prince passed away on April 21, 2016 at the age of 57. Musician Jason Tenner says he could not eat and barely slept for a few days after the Purple Rain singer’s passing. For over 15 years, Mr. Tenner has done his best to accurately represent Prince on stage. Now, he seeks to pay his respects to the now deceased artist, who so strongly impacted the music industry. On and off the Las Vegas Strip, Mr. Tenner has performed his Prince show titled Purple Reign, for more than a decade. The show comprises Jason Tenner as Prince, his band and various beautiful women. It certainly makes for a memorable evening. The show has a variety of Prince’s music, a few short humorous skits and a tribute that pays respect to the artist, now gone too soon. On the evening of Wednesday, May 25th, I attended Mr. Tenner’s Purple Reign Prince tribute show, which is now at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino. The venue that evening was more than 95 percent full. Throughout the entire show, the performance received numerous standing ovations.

    Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world, hosts all sorts of spectacles, acrobatics shows, music performances, magic performances, celebrity tribute shows, showgirls, tours to the Grand Canyon and many other things for the millions visiting the city yearly. However, if you are looking for a laugh and are not easily offended, comedian and actor Eddie Griffin puts on a hilarious show in The King’s Room at the Rio All-Suite Las Vegas Hotel & Casino’s. I suspect it is unlike any comedy show you have ever experienced. Mr. Griffin’s show is a no holds barred commentary on a variety of social and political topics, as well as his life experiences. Some have called Eddie this generation’s Richard Pryor. It is a title he hopes to live up to every day. Speaking of the late Richard Pryor, Eddie has currently taken the late comedian’s son, Mason Pryor, under his wing. Mason is one of Mr. Griffin’s two opening acts. The young Pryor’s routine garnered laughs about sex and the financial challenges of being relatively new to the comedy game. The other opening act, comedian Thomas Ward, told jokes about Instagram models and his bad credit score, also to abundant laughs.

    The year was 1975 and the Captain and Tennille song, Love Will Keep Us Together, was tearing up the charts. Toni Tennille and her husband Daryl Dragon aka the Captain were one of the most popular male/female music duos of the 1970s. The also titled album, Love Will Keep Us Together, went on to win the Grammy for Record of the Year. Her life with Daryl Dragon, left her longing to bring out the emotional side of her now ex-husband, but she says it was to no avail. In her new autobiography Toni Tennille: A Memoir, the singer shares the highs and lows of her personal and professional life. Worried what her fans would think of her divorce from Daryl, Ms. Tennille clears the air. From playing at a place called the Smoke House in her early days to performing at the White House, this is Toni Tennille’s story. Living today in Florida near her sister Jane, Toni is happy where her life is and wants to reassure her fans that she and Darryl Dragon are still good friends and speak often.

    Grammy Award Winner Sam Moore Out in Support of Phil Collins: Soul Man a Powerful Presence on the Red Carpet

    On March 11th, world renowned music star Phil Collins performed his first concert in years at The Fillmore Miami Beach. We were on hand to speak with Phil and his partner Orianne, on the red carpet [see CYInterviews here]. Soul music legend Sam Moore was one of the celebrities who came out to show his support for Mr. Collins. The two worked together. Sam Moore is a Grammy Award winner and a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He was also named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the 100 great vocalists of the rock music era. Known for being part of the music duo Sam & Dave, with Dave Prater, and as a solo performer, Mr. Moore’s most famous hit is Soul Man.

    Phil Collins is Back! First Concert in Years, at The Fillmore Miami Beach

    This past Friday evening, mega music star/songwriter Phil Collins returned to the stage for his first musical performance in many years at The Fillmore Miami Beach. Known for his work with Genesis and as a solo artist, Mr. Collins multiple hits include: Against All Odds, Another Day in Paradise, Easy Lover, One More Night and In the Air Tonight. His seven song performance during The Little Dreams Foundation Benefit Gala, a charitable organization he founded with his partner Orianne Collins, was the first step in what may be the beginning of the next chapter of Phil Collins’s music career. The Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe winner has been talking about the possibility of an active performing career going forward. There have also been reports about a possible world tour, but he has not confirmed that yet.
