RIP Eddie Van Halen: Founder of Rock Group Van Halen Dies; Considered One of Greatest Guitarists in Rock History; We Recall Meeting with Bandmate Sammy Hagar
Yesterday, it was reported that music legend Eddie Van Halen died. He was 65. Widely regarded as a virtuoso rock guitarist, he is best known for being part of the group carrying his and his brother Alex’s last name, Van Halen. Alex Van Halen was a founding member of the group along with Eddie.
The original vocalist/frontman for Van Halen was David Lee Roth. Later, it was Sammy Hagar. Later still, it went back to David Lee Roth.
In January of this year, we saw David Lee Roth in concert at the House of Blues at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino here in Las Vegas. Then, at the beginning of March, prior to things closing down owing to the pandemic, we met Sammy Hagar at the Power of Love Gala at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, also here in Las Vegas. You can see our photo with Sammy above.
On his social media yesterday, Mr. Hagar said this about the passing of Eddie Van Halen:
“Heartbroken and speechless. My love to the family.”
RIP Eddie Van Halen. You were one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
