In recent years there has been a distinct entertainment trend on the Las Vegas Strip. Some of music’s greatest stars including Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie and others have been putting on short run shows for their fans, performing hit songs from their careers, to great accolades. Singer/songwriter Richard Marx is the latest performer to join this esteemed group, in the Entertainment Capital of the World.
Richard is currently performing for a limited engagement of shows at the Donnie and Marie Showroom at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel & Casino until September 2nd. See me with Richard after his August 19th performance, in the photograph above.
On the night I attended his show, fans got to hear many of Richard’s most memorable songs including Now and Forever, Don’t Mean Nothin’ and Right Here Waiting. With age comes change, yet Mr. Marx has lost nothing of his vocal range. His closing number had him at the piano for Right Here Waiting. I believe members of the audience might have thought they were hearing the original 1989 track of the song; Richard’s performance was that strong.
Aside from his superb vocal range, demonstrated to perfection by way of his stylizing of his classic hits, Richard plays both guitar and piano at different points throughout the show. He admits, unlike some other artists, that he loves hearing his songs on the radio.
The Grammy Award winner takes the audience through a biographical journey of his career, while making fun of himself, recalling some of his early career hair choices, as well as sharing stories about working with NYSNC and asking the audience whatever happened to Justin Timberlake?
Richard Marx continues at the highest level. If you are in town or coming to Vegas before September 2nd, his show is worth seeing.
