R-E-S-P-E-C-T: Biopic about Legendary Aretha Franklin Slated for Theaters in December
A biopic about “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin is slated for release in December. The movie is named after one of her most famous songs, Respect. The synopsis for the MGM produced film says, “Following the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom, RESPECT is the remarkable true story of the music icon’s journey to find her voice.”
Oscar winning actress Jennifer Hudson will be playing Ms. Franklin in the film. Oscar winning actor Forest Whitaker plays Aretha Franklin’s father C.L. Franklin. Six-time Tony Award winning actress Audra McDonald stars as the Queen of Soul’s mother Barbara Siggers Franklin. Singer and actress Mary J. Blige will play the legendary songstress Dinah Washington.
We look forward to seeing Respect. We were fortunate to meet and witness Ms. Franklin perform in 2014. Above is a picture of the evening we met the “Queen of Soul” at The Blacks’ Annual Gala at the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach. Below is a picture of the movie poster for the upcoming biopic.
