Artificial intelligence (AI) is impacting many industries and changing the world. During the recent actor and writer’s strikes in Hollywood, the use of A.I. in show business was one of the main issues.
To speak about AI, we welcome on Hollywood producer Stephen P. Jarchow. He has worked on the production and or distribution of more than 250 TV series and films. Additionally, he is a real estate investor that has worked on over 100 different ventures.
Along with Paul Zane Pilzer, they have released a new book focusing on AI titled The New Roaring Twenties: Prosper in Volatile Times.
CYInterview sponsor Rob Gill joined us for this insightful segment.
Discussing where things are today with artificial intelligent, Stephen P. Jarchow said this:
“AI is part of our cell phones, our automobiles, logistics, air traffic controlling, medical devices. It’s pervasive, but it’s only been in the last four or five years that generative AI has developed, which has large language models, which pull from billions and in some cases even trillions of data points and language throughout the Internet and other databases in order to solve complicated problems and actually create content. This is really the first time that generative AI has been part of the discussion and it poses terrific opportunities to solve many of the problems we currently face.”
As a business owner, Rob Gill presented his thoughts on how AI could have a negative impact on entrepreneurship:
“When somebody says to me, hey, you have to improve your business, but be careful of that and watch out for that over there. So, I like to dig deeper when I hear you say that, you know, A.I. can hurt us, right. Who is the police of A.I. and how do we prevent that? What does it look like if it’s going to spin out of control, how are you gonna know if it is spinning out of control. So, those are the questions that I have.”
Speaking about how artificial intelligence may impact Hollywood, Stephen offered this:
“Writers have the ability to use AI, but they are not required to use AI. A studio cannot say you need to use AI to help with your script. … I don’t think we’re at the point where AI is going to replace human writers and I think that may never be the case. … I negotiate a lot of contracts with actors and with other producers, and with directors, and I have not found it to be particularly helpful with respect to drafting contracts.”
