Past CYInterview Guest, Anika Noni Rose, Nominated for NAACP Image Award
Actress, singer, Tony Award winner and past two-time CYInterview guest Anika Noni Rose [see here and here] has been nominated for an NAACP Image Award.
Ms. Rose has been recognized in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Television Movie, Limited-Series or Dramatic Special category for her role in the Netflix series Maid.
When it was released last year, Maid became one of the most watched offerings on Netflix and had top 10 staying power for several weeks. The series centers on Alex, a young mother, played by actress Margaret Qualley. She leaves her abusive husband, with her daughter in tow, in pursuit of a better life. Subsequently, she takes a job as a maid.
Anika Noni Rose plays Regina, an attorney. She ends up developing a friendship with Alex, after Alex cleans her house a number of times. Regina ends up assisting Alex in getting full custody of her daughter.
If you are looking for some inspiration, in the face of things that are dysfunctional and seemingly hopeless, Maid – though a fictional story – provides an example of someone changing their life for the better, by virtue of patience and diligence.
The NAACP Image Awards will take place on February 26th and air on the cable television channel BET, at 8:00 PM Eastern Time.
