Last night, actress and past CYInterview guest Angela Bassett made history at the Golden Globes. For her role as Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ms. Bassett became the first actor to win a Golden Globe for a Marvel film role, in the Best Supporting Actress category.
Eyes will now turn to the nominations for the Academy Awards, on January 24th. Ms. Bassett’s one Oscar nomination came in 1994 for her role as Tina Turner in the biopic What’s Love Got to Do With It?. The actress’s other Golden Globe, was for her role as Ms. Turner in What’s Love Got to Do With It?, in the Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical category.
In 2008, Angela Bassett reflected on her role as Tina Turner on CYInterview. She said this:
“But, people still, you know, it’s still a favorite movie for a lot of people. They still remember it vividly and I love that. … There are still things that I didn’t see after the first viewings, which just makes it richer. Just makes it so layered.”
