Yesterday, Oscar winning actor Matthew McConaughey and his wife, model, fashion designer, past CYInterview guest Camila Alves McConaughey [see here], pictured above, visited the White House, to spread awareness about the mass shooting in Uvalde and how to prevent further events like it.
Mr. McConaughey’s hometown is Uvalde, Texas. On May 24th at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, a shooting occurred that killed 19 children and two teachers, as well as wounding others.
Matthew spoke in front of the White House press corp for around 20 minutes, expressing his hopes that politicians, from both parties, can come together to enact new gun restriction laws.
After the Uvalde massacre, Mr. McConaughey traveled to his hometown, to visit with some of the families of the deceased.
Whatever your political affiliation might be, the actor’s speech yesterday, at the White House, was an attempt to bring people to the political center. The aspiration, as embodied by his speech, is that we stop the name calling, blaming and polarization existing in today’s American politics.
Gun volence has become a personal topic for many Americans, over the last month, with mass shootings continuing to take place.
Perhaps Mr. McConaughey’s speech might provide for a beginning, for our lawmakers to consider doing something to halt the epidemic of gun violence engulfing the nation. The Oscar winner referenced the 2017 Las Vegas massacre and other mass shootings, as tragic events that we must work to stop.
