Martin Scorsese Film Casino Turns 25 Today: Movie Starring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone Covered Bygone Las Vegas Era

Today is the 25th anniversary of the movie Casino. The Martin Scorsese film, focusing on mob influence in a bygone era in Las Vegas, was released on November 22, 1995. The movie starred Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Sharon Stone, James Woods, and Kevin Pollack, along with three marquee names who have since passed in Don Rickles, Alan King, and Frank Vincent.

In honor of Casino’s silver anniversary, we look back to our CYInterview with the late former mobster Frank Cullotta. A former member of the Chicago crime syndicate, Mr. Cullotta was a technical advisor for the movie. The late actor Frank Vincent played the character of Frank Marino in the film, based on the life of Frank Cullotta.

Last year, we went on a tour with Mr. Cullotta. He took us to some of the sites where the movie was filmed. See our photo with him above, outside the house where Robert De Niro’s character, Ace Rothstein, lived. Frank passed away due to Covid-19 earlier this year. He was 81.

In our one-hour CYInterview last year with Frank Cullotta, we discussed the real-life people on whom the characters in Casino were based. Frank also recounted some stories from the shooting of the Scorsese picture. You can find that CYInterview by clicking here.

Happy Anniversary Casino!
