Las Vegas’s Own Murray the Magician Joins Us Again
Murray the Magician is one of Las Vegas entertainment’s great ambassadors. You can see him in two productions in the Entertainment Capital of the World. First, he performs his magic show, which is in residency at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino, every Sunday through Wednesday at 4:00 PM. Second, he provides the intermission entertainment every night at the popular female revue Fantasy at the Luxor Hotel and Casino. Fantasy runs nightly at 10:30 PM.
On TV, you can find Murray making ongoing guest appearances on the popular reality TV show Pawn Stars and their new spinoff Pawn Stars Do America. On the streaming platform Tubi, you can currently watch the magician’s first comedy special, that was filmed at the Plaza Hotel and Casino here in Las Vegas.
Murray the Magician recently joined us again, this time with CYInterview sponsor Rob Gill.
Murray shared that he is now appearing in a spinoff series of Pawn Stars called Pawn Stars Do America:
“Pawn Stars started a new series now called Pawn Stars Do America. So. it’s basically like an American pickers type thing where they take off and travel and go to the people. They don’t come to them. So, they’ve been shooting this. They shot one season. It went over so well it was such a big hit that they’ve actually signed for two or three more seasons. So, I pop on that. The nice thing about that is I don’t travel with them because a lot of fly in and fly out, especially with all my shows and everything. So, I zoom in. So, they do a zoom.”
Rob Gill asked Murray how he knew at an early age that he wanted to be a professional magician:
“I watched The Lawerence Welk Show and all these other entertainers and I thought, my God, that’s amazing. You know, I started magic when I was seven years old. I got a magic kit from my family and then learned it and then continued, how to make money.”
Rob asked the Las Vegas headliner about negotiating deals as an entertainer:
”The biggest problem with an entertainer negotiating is we love our job. We want to work. Heck, we’d do it for free and that’s the problem. So that’s the hardest thing with artists and that’s why managers were invented I think. But also, managers can talk you out of good gigs because if the manager doesn’t get a big enough cut, then you’ll never see that gig and never know you got the offer.”
Murray performs 11 shows a week in Las Vegas. Mr. Gill asked how he performs when he’s not feeling particularly energetic:
“I think you go up there, realize these people have never seen you and whether you’ve got a migraine, headache or you had an argument with somebody or whatever, it’s not, they don’t care, they don’t give a sh*t. It’s not their problem. You’re there to do your job.”
