Her Imperial Highness Abimbola Fernandez Joins Us to Discuss Her Show African Royale, More

In 2014, Her Imperial Highness, Abimbola Fernandez, joined us for the first time on CYInterview [see here].

Abimbola has the kind of story that you might see in a movie or television show. Her father, the late Antonio Deinde Fernandez, was a Nigerian billionaire and diplomat. Growing up, she had the opportunity to meet world leaders including the then President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.

There is no doubt that Ms. Fernandez comes from a background of wealth and privilege. However, there is much more to Bim – as she’s called by her friends – than a jet setting lifestyle. And now the world can get to know her and her family’s compelling story.

Abimbola is starring in her own reality series, African Royale, which you can currently see on The Africa Channel. The series follows her life living in a Los Angeles penthouse, as she works on the next chapter of her life.

Abimbola Fernandez, joined us with CYInterview sponsor Rob Gill, to talk about African Royale and her fascinating life.

Abimbola believes that African Royale on The Africa Channel is showcasing her in an authentic way:

“They’re filming me and I’m only one way. I’m very, very authentic and I like to just give people an insight as to what life really is like for me because there’s so many preconceived notions, especially when you are coming from the background that I’m coming from. I need to give it people the way it is. I need them to understand where things really are.”

Responding to Rob Gill’s poignant statement on the importance of educating today’s youth when it comes to financial literacy, Ms. Ferandez shared this:

“Speaking of financial literacy, the truth is, you know, my parents didn’t really teach us that and you know, it’s not quite what you would expect, but I’ve been going through a couple things since the passing of my parents and it just clicked in my mind because we have been dealing with a lot of fiduciary theft within my parents’ estates and I like to say that the show is inspiring, but I’d like people to be inspired to do better and I’d like people to also learn from the mistakes, my mistakes and also the mistakes of my parents and I think that what we need to start telling people and what people need to start learning is how to properly prepare their estates, to protect their children, to protect their legacy because my parents didn’t do that.”

Abimbola said she would like to read Rob Gill’s upcoming book, Surviving Success.

“I need a copy of that.”

Rob gave his thoughts on who the African Royale star is:

“I’m hearing somebody that doesn’t judge. … I’m hearing somebody that would shake the hand of the janitor, the same way that they would shake the hand of the President. That’s what I’m hearing right now. And by the way, that warms my heart. I just want you to know that.”

The television star stated that protecting her family legacy is very important to her:

“I’m protecting my parents’ legacy and our family history because if you don’t tell your own history, it will be retold for you and you never know what people are going to say. You never know what people are gonna do and I’m building upon the platform that my parents and my father, you know, especially, left for me and trying to just make a name for myself.”

Rob asked Abimbola where she sees herself in the next five years:

“I would love to, there’s no documentary or book or anything about my father and he hasn’t given any interviews throughout his life. So, hopefully I can put something together and preferably a biopic and really tell the story of who my father was, how he came to the states with $10 and died with $6.8 billion. How he was a bookkeeper at the United Nations and he went from there to, you know, being an ambassador, owning oil and diamond mines and the story needs to be told. It’s extremely inspirational and also that of my mother. My mother’s imperial ascension is one for the books.”
