CYSoul Wednesday: Soul Man Sam Moore 85th Birthday This Week
On Monday, Soul Man Sam Moore celebrated his 85th birthday. Known for being part of the group Sam and Dave with Dave Prater, their 1967 hit Soul Man written by the late Isaac Hayes and David Porter was selected by the National Recording Registry for preservation last year.
We met and CYInterviewed Sam Moore at the Phil Collins [see here] comeback concert at the Little Dreams Foundation in 2016. See our photo with Sam, at the event, above.
Speaking of his iconic song, Soul Man, Mr. Moore gave his thoughts on the track:
“Tired, but it is what it is. You know, you can sing any song you want to sing, every time you look around, but you know at the end of the night, you gotta do the song. If not, people aren’t gonna leave.”
Happy Birthday Sam! I may not be a Soul Man, but you sure are.
