Clinton Portis Attends Irie Weekend: Talks Retirement and Giving Back

Earlier this week, we brought you photos with the stars from Irie Weekend [see here]. Now comes our first CYInterview from the festivities. It is a conversation with retired NFL running back Clinton Portis. Mr. Portis played in the NFL, from 2002 to 2010, with the Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins. He is one of the 80 Greatest Redskins of all-time.

Being part of Irie Weekend was a real thrill for Clinton because it was his first official invite, though he has attended the event before. He speaks about that and what some of his charitable causes are:

“Man, you know what? I have been here since 99 and Irie finally gave me my first official invite to his charity weekend. So I had to come out and support it. … For myself I support a lot of breast cancer, underdeveloped youth, underprivileged youth and I kinda don’t do it on this scale anymore. Just to be behind the scenes and not require their attention, to be able to get into households and communities and help out is more of my effort.”

Speaking about retirement and his life today, the former NFL running back told us this:

“I’m officially retired. You know it was a great run. I enjoy myself. I’m 31. I’m a father. So I’m out here having a good time. … It’s cool man. You know, you get to relax and learn how to play golf. That’s what everybody do. So I’m on the same trail.”
