Chaz Bono Joins CYInterview: Discuss Film Bury the Bride, Transgender Issues, More

Actor and producer Chaz Bono has a love for horror movies. He joined CYInterview to talk about his new film, Bury the Bride, which he both produced and starred in. The movie will be released on Tubi on April 21st. Chaz shared with us why he likes scary movies and why being involved in projects like Bury the Bride interest him:

“I’ve always like horror a lot and I, you know, as an actor, I like the diversity of the characters that I get to play within horror and the intensity of those characters and I mean, I’m a character actor. That’s what I love, is you know to disappear and be different and every single thing I’m in. So, you know, horror’s just a unique opportunity to play different types of intense roles, and then it’s also a great storytelling genre.”

Chaz is the only child of former famed singing act Sonny and Cher. As a child, he appeared on the star couple’s television show, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. Acting is his calling:

“It’s just my sweet spot. It’s my greatest joy. It’s You know, the creative outlet that just, to me, it’s almost like breathing. It’s something I need to do in order to feel fulfilled and happy as a person.”

After having gender affirmation surgery in 2009, Chaz Bono became one of the most well known transgender people in the world. In America, there has been more focus on transgender issues of late. The entertainer offered his thoughts on what people should know, that they may not, about transgender people:

“What’s been happening around this country for transgender rights is really scary. It’s scary to experience as a transgender person. I guess I would say we are not, we are not a threat. We’re just being turned into one for political expedience.”

A Bud Light advertisement featuring transgender influencer/actress Dylan Mulvaney was one of the biggest news stories of the week. The advertisement was reacted to negatively commentators and media outlets. Chaz said he was not surprised that Bud Light received blowback:

“It’s not surprising to me unfortunately. I mean, this is the world we live in now. It’s been, transgender people, especially youth, have been politicized over and over and over again. So, it’s not surprising. I’m grateful that in certain parts of the country it’s still not an issue, but it doesn’t surprise me that there’d be blowback at Bud Light. I thank them for actually, for doing that.”

The actor shared how society can better understand who transgender people are:

“It’s complicated and it’s simple. I mean, transgender people are just, you know, somebody who’s born where their gender identity or identity in your brain doesn’t match your physical body. It’s unfortunate that most people don’t experience that, so they, you know, are quick to try to deny it. But the science is there. It’s been there. And yeah, we’re just normal folks trying to live our lives.”

What should people know about Chaz Bono that we don’t?

“Honestly, I’m a fairly boring guy. So, you know, I’m kind of a homebody. I’m a big animal person and you know, my favorite thing is probably being at home with my girlfriend and our animals and you know, watching something great on TV. Like I said, I’m pretty boring or game night or something like that.”
